Overview
In an effort to create projects that go beyond the Flash environment, we set out to challenge people to customize a series of blank little Flying Fortress Teddy Trooper. Artists were given open reign to do whatever they liked, some artists bought their own and a few were given blank teddys to customize and return. At the end of the project artists mailed their finished pieces back to the NG office and we picked the 3 best of the litter. We ran a similar project prior to this one but with figurines called Wzl's, you can see the results of that project thread. On with the show!
Photos
This photoshoot took place March 28th, 2009. We finally wrapped up this long overdue project. With the help of Afro-ninja and Bob, we tried to give everyone their 15 mins of fame and just have fun with these. Enjoy!
The Winners
To the winners go the fame and the glory and a few cool prizes. It was definately a tough decision as these contests always are. However, as cliche as it sounds; the journey is almost more rewarding than the finish line itself. I know I had fun customizing these little guys and hopefully everyone else did as well. Whether they ended up winning or not. Each winner was photographed with their prize and also brief snippets and commentary where available. Everyone who didnt win are winners in our hearts and in the NG Store, you'll be credited $10 worth to pick up a few items here and there.
THIRD PLACE: GreyGreySilver
Comments: we loved the fact that you totally defaced (literally) the Teddy Trooper figurine. The amount of detail and care both inside the Teddy and outside of it was pretty impressive. We loved the fact that you went all out to the point that you would never know it was a bear. Great work!
Prize:To continue to inspire your creativity, we are hooking you up with some rare Do-it-yourself his and hers figurines courtesy of House of Liu
SECOND PLACE: Ani-X
Comments: This one really captured its theme well. Speaking of themes, the whole defacing and ripping parts out of these poor figurines seems to be totally in the rage this time around. Ani-X's was missing his arm. We loved the attention to detail and how you really captured the war-ravaged look. His bloody bandages were a great touch.
Prize:Courtesy of Kid Robot, we are hooking you up with a 7-inch Munny. These figurines are pretty much the fathers of the whole do-it-yourself blanks scene. It comes with all sorts of props for you to integrate into it. Bob thought he'd do you the favor of beginning to disassemble it. (dont worry we put it back together)
FIRST PLACE: TurkeyonaStick
Comments: We have to admit, that this one blew us away from the start. The finish of the paint is sparkly and flawless. The percision of your linework is second to none, and it was just all around awesome. This figurine is one of those that you have to hold and see in person to really appreciate!
Prize:Courtesy of Strong-boy, we are hooking you up with a large Thump. According to its creator Gregory st. Amand, 'Thump gives you the will to stand up and say: thats enough or the ability to say: Let's Do It!. He is the fighter inside us all, non-threatening but tough as nails. Thump is the hero in the little boy with great potential, it strengthens with dreams of unlimited achievements.' We pretty much bought this for you because that is what you represent to us.
That's all folks, I am glad to finally see the day this project concluded and I think I speak for all of the staff when I say we were really impressed with the things people came up with! THANK YOU!
Behind the scenes
This is a collection of photos and odd's and ends from my visit to the NG Office while we were doing the photo shoot. I figured I may as well dump them in here.
